Band Day -
Posted on Monday September 04, 2017

Saturday, September 30. Parade at 1:00 PM.

The Algona Band Day Festival is recognized as one of Iowa’s largest and finest band festivals. Bands from Iowa and Minnesota, ranging in size from 1A to 4A, have competed for awards in the parade and field show competitions.

Dating back to 1948, this festival attracts thousands along State Street at 1:00 PM where crowds are thrilled to the sound of high school and middle school marching bands along with wide variety of floats from area businesses and organizations. Adjudicators critique each band on its performance and marching abilities. One of the most entertaining events is the drum line performances following the parade where percussionists from several high school bands are highlighted before a large crowd.

The Algona Band Day evening festivities move to the Algona High School football field where 15 high school bands compete in the field show. Again, the adjudicators critique bands for their performances and marching abilities.

Special awards and honors are announced following the field competition, including the Sweepstakes Trophy award given to the high school band considered being the best band of the day.
